For all E3 coverage from 1UP, check out e3.1up.com.What's the game about: Snowblind Studios and Warner Bros. are getting ready to release Justice League Heroes later this year. While the story isn't abundantly clear at this point, it's safe to say that the forces of evil are again stirring up trouble and it's up to the Justice League Heroes to save the day. All the action takes place throughout various landscapes including cities, diabolical laboratories and parallel universes (portals) of some sort. The game offers both a single and multiplayer mode, yet when playing solo, the computer will control your partner in battle (which can be a good or bad thing). What's New for E3: Playable characters included Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and The Flash. Each character uses their own unique strengths and weaknesses. For example: Superman is stronger than all other characters but comes off as rather slow, while The Flash is very fast but far weaker. By presenting the characters in such a way, a level of strategy comes into play and players might think twice about which character they opt to select. Things seem to work out by pitting a stronger character with a faster (weaker) character. Also new to E3 is a leveling up ability similar to God of War. As players progress and generate experience points, they can select what attributes they want to level up. An example of leveling up would be Batman's batarang. After leveling up, Batman can throw multiple batarangs that spread across a room rather than the generic single. What we like: The fuzzy warm feeling you get when you see your favorite superheroes on screen for the first time does manage to put a smile on your face. The game's art style and aesthetics were eye-pleasing, as well. What we dislike: The combat system didn't settle too well -- it was rather sluggish and cumbersome. The L trigger acts as a submenu that allows players to see what specials are available, for example; if you are playing as Superman and you want to use your freeze breath, you need to hold down the L trigger, press the corresponding button, aim towards the bad guy and start freezing. However, enemies continually strike at you even when performing specials; these specials can only tackle one enemy at a time, leaving you vulnerable to attack.
The game has some superheroic potential, but the execution isn't quite there yet.
